So, what is it that draws them back? Salsa has a string of internationally-trained chefs including head chef, Goran Zonai originally from the Schwarzwald, Black Forest – the team is truly global.
With a career spanning over 22 years, Chef Zonai has a wealth of experience, instrumental to the mentoring of his brigade and apprentices. “It is important that when the apprentices go elsewhere they can say… “I learnt that at Salsa.” he explains with pride. He believes that if you can’t get the quality of product you want, then you should know how to produce it from scratch.
With several years of experience in Europe at a number of Michelin Star establishments, Chef Zonai embarked on his career in Australia at The Hotel Windsor in Melbourne. But the style, elegance, sophistication and charm of the luxury hotel could not keep Chef Zonai in the cooler southern state. After a suggestion from a friend, the temptation of the warm tropical weather and the lure of being part of increasing the culinary profile of Port Douglas – Chef Zonai made the move and after almost 8 years had never looked back.
